Dam Projects – India

This region of North India is unfortunately strife with a multitude of problems in every imaginable way. First & foremost being that it is a totally culturally and socially backward region with little literacy.

It does not help that in such a situation, agriculture being a main source of income for villages there, the farmers are dealt with a rough hand by nature too. It has continuously topped the region in drought struck areas year after year for the past 7 years.

We undertook the responsibility of rehabilitating 5 villages to begin with. By this I mean, proper farmer training, smart irrigation, kitchen vegetable gardens managed by women, seed banks, drinking water supply by tankers, reconstruction and repair of bore wells, hand pumps and large ponds etc.

This is the only way we can hope to rehabilitate the farmers on a long-term basis. Healing Lives started the first phase of the project last year and are happy with the progress so far. There is a marked improvement in drip irrigation, Mulching and smart farming that enables the villagers to use little water and have the maximum result for the crops.

There is certainly a long way to go to get these 5 villages as model examples for other villages to copy them. We are also looking at sponsoring the girls in these villages for their schools and university education starting from the coming school year. This could help them going forward to get a job and thereby help their families financially.

The villages under our assistance are Nadiya, Nandanpur, Koriya, Bangyan & Kanti Mohangarh.
